This layered, non-directional pattern of stylized bouquets and foliage is based on a painterly English hand-block print from the 1880's and it shares the original’s romantic mood. O'Brien liked the possibility of doing such a complex , sweeping pattern on the grand scale of a carpet. Thoughtful color blocking and silk in different positions in the weave create depth and translucence from any angle, unusual for a pile rug. Three versions featuring unexpected pale blues. greys and greens strike an impressionistic chord.
