O'Brien’s favorite, and the standout of the collection, is this charming carpet with oversized depictions of Chinese porcelain vases on stands. O'Brien based this design on pages of illustrations from a circa 1902 English book about the history of Chinese porcelains, and he envisioned the motifs on a grand enough scale that the details of the drawing would be visible. In plum, taupe, and jade on ivory, or warm ruby and eggshell on beige, the colors remain close to the original engraved artwork. This is a modern, fun carpet that O'Brien sees in a library or dining room, or as a long runner, with a tongue-in-cheek elegance.
