In a new penthouse by Safavieh, the interior vistas are no less compelling than the skyline views.
It was a fine sales figure for opening weekend: $85 million. That wasn’t the box office of a new Hollywood movie, but rather, the value of apartments snatched up in Tower 2 of The Grand at Sky View Parc in Flushing, New York, during the first two days of availability—a measure of how hot SVP, as some residents call it for short, has become. There’s a lot to like about this residential-and-retail complex, which feels almost like its own city. A seven-acre rooftop park, complete with pools and tennis courts, sits atop nearly 1 million square feet of retail stores. The Grand apartments themselves, designed by Canadian architect Peter Clewes, are sleek, luxurious and packed with amenities. And then there are the views— Citi Field, the Manhattan skyline, Long Island Sound…. Naturally, penthouses at The Grand have the best views of all.
Panoramic vistas are just one draw of this four-bedroom penthouse in The Grand at Sky View Parc. Windows aside, the tonal, crisply tailored roomscapes delight the eye. This living room appears to offer the serenity of living in a cloud. Long sight lines (previous page), combined with the views, create a sense of expansiveness.
The one shown here was decorated as a model by Safavieh. While the purpose of models is simply to help prospects envision a complete home, many buyers, it turns out, can’t imagine improving on the work of Safavieh designers Karin Krinsky and Joe Murphy: They’re asking for their apartment, whether a one bedroom or a penthouse, to be furnished exactly like the model they were sold on. (Yes, buying a penthouse fully furnished is now a thing.) It’s a cliché to say that high-rise interior design is all about the views. “Certainly we wanted to favor the views,” says Krinsky, “so we kept the furniture low and neutral in color. But it’s more correct to say we designed this penthouse as we design any home—for the comfort and delight of the people who will live there, as well as to complement the architecture.” Here the style is appropriately modern and quiet. The spaces are uncluttered, flowing and consistent with the principles of Feng Shui. In short, whether you’re looking outward or inward, the views in this penthouse are always great.
