Blue Note
Sumptuous materials and saturated color make for a serene retreat.
Blue can evoke the sea or sky—or both, as in designer Karin Krinsky’s sumptuous suite at the Ritz-Carlton Residences, Long Island, North Hills. Here she uses blue as an accent color amid billows of silver, gray and white, creating serene spaces that beckon one to relax. The dining area is a star of this stage, with its long cascading drapes and chairs upholstered in the strongest saturated blue velvet, punctuated by silver nail-head trim. A shimmering bar cart nearby, this is the perfect spot for evening entertaining. The other rooms in this suite suggest Art Deco— note the graphic fire screen in the living room and the Machinist style of the end table. One could almost imagine oneself on a Cunard liner, steaming toward Le Havre or Southampton, were it not for the high ceilings and enormous size of the windows and French doors.
