KISMET was originally inspired by the simplified fretwork patterns that O’Brien has explored in previous carpet designs. For this carpet, however, he guides the motif toward the naïve and rugged geometry of classic Beni Quarain tribal rugs from Morocco. In this modern interpretation, the coarse mountain wool of the original rugs is replaced with a blend of equally earthy, environmentally-friendly hemp and jute yarns. These natural fibers are hand-combed to produce a lustrous sheen with the slightest looseness of a shag look. Gentle tinting of the yarns creates a handsome palette of warm, heathered neutrals.
