Safavieh's Agra Rugs Safavieh creates the first transitional designs to come out of Agra, the rug-weaving capital of India renowned for the Taj Mahal. The new rugs are finely hand-knotted onto a cotton warp in the tradition of Indian carpets of Agra, India, using specially twisted wool yarns that are space-dyed with natural vegetable dyes to create the warm, lived-in look of older rugs. For our Agra rugs, we carefully select the same quality of soft, silken wool used by the city rug workshops of northern India since the 16th century. Classically-derived 19th century floral motifs are open and airy in Safavieh’s new interpretation, and perfect for today’s homes and lifestyles.
